Runners, walkers, friendly canines and families are invited to participate in the fourth Bieni 5K Fun Run and Dog Walk beginning at 9 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 28, at the Hawaii Preparatory Academy cross-country course.
The course, located at the school’s Upper Campus, is a challenging but fun course that includes hills, flats, grass and pavement.
Bieni Kohler-Johnson, who graduated from HPA in 1983, passed away in June 2009 after a battle against breast cancer.
All net proceeds from the event will fund the annual Bieni Kohler-Johnson ’83 Scholarship at HPA, which currently honors four young women who are gifted in athletics, academics or the arts, who understand their responsibility to work hard to develop and share those gifts, and who demonstrate a sincere commitment and willingness to go the “extra mile” for friends, family or a worthy cause.
Registration and pledges are available online at www.flpregister.com/102. The top fundraiser will receive the grand prize of a two-night stay at the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel.
The runner-up fundraiser will receive a round of golf for four at the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel. Fundraisers do not need to be present to win. Medals will be awarded to the top two overall male and female finishers and to the top three male and female finishers in each age division.
Entry fee is $25 for adults, $10 for students 10 and younger, with a late fee of an additional $10 after Sept. 9.
All pre-registered participants are guaranteed a tech shirt and goodie bag. The entry fee for dogs is $10 and includes dog goodies in the owner’s goodie bag.
There will be a special “Top Dog” award for the first dog to cross the finish line.
This event is made possible by Hawaii Preparatory Academy and the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel.
